A customer has several employees that work ocasionally outside the corporate domain, sometimes for weeks. They have no (VPN) connection to the corporate domain, just internet. They all log on to their notebooks (Windows 7 and Windows XP) with the cached domain credentials (domain\<User-ID>).
The customer told me that after some time (a week or so), the clients start to lose their GPO settings. For example after about two weeks without connection to the domain, the clients suddenly start to show Windows Updates directly from the Microsoft Update Site and not from the internal WSUS server, on which some updates are not approved for installation. And the Internet Explorer Start Page changes to MSN and is no longer the Start Page that is configured in the user GPO.
According my knowledge, the clients should keep the GPO settings when they log on with cached crededials that were applied when they logged on to the domain the last time (except SW installation GPO's, scripts and folder redirection GPO's). Couldn't find any information that GPO settings "expire" after some time.
Any advice? Thank you all for your help.
