Removing a phantom GPO

First time poster, long time reader.

I'm having this issue where after having removed some old GPOs via the Group Policy Editor my secondary active controller continues to try and refresh one of the previously deleted GPOs.  I'm basing this on the GUID that it brings up.

The symptoms:

When I run a Policy Model based on a user, the details show a red circle with a white X next to the Component Status with the message:

Group Policy Infrastructure failed due to the error listed below.

The system cannot find the path specified.

Note: Due to the GP Core failure, none of the other Group Policy components processed their policy. Consequently, status information for the other components is not available.

Additional information may have been logged. Review the application event log on the domain controller on which the simulation was run for events between 2/22/2013 10:35:16 AM and 2/22/2013 10:35:16 AM.

From what I can tell from the gpupdate /force that I run on the client side it's looking for an GUID that previously belonged to an older GPO that I had removed (I forgot to unlink it via the Group Policy Editor/Manager).

Is there a way to remove the dependency on this GPO id and sync up my active directory servers?
