To all Policy & Preferences experts:
when using the copy & paste function of the GPP editor for items tagged with “Apply once and do not reapply”,
the GUID which is used to flag a users/clients registry is not changed.
This will have the effect that GPP items created via “Copy&Paste” will not apply on a client that has already processed the original item.
The use case for Copy&Paste is to have a similar GPP item without having to create it from scratch.
You can verify this by creating a new GPP item that is tagged with "Apply once...". Then copy and paste it and make some slight changes (e.g. the file name when using FILES extension).
Have a look at the XML files created on SYSVOL (search entry "FilterRunOnce"). When turning on Logging for GPP you will then see that the copied GPP item is skipped due to "Failed hidden filter [FilterRunOnce}".
I was testing the result on XP client, the editing was done on W2K8 SP1.
Due to my understanding the origin lies in the editor, as it does not change the GUIDs.
Another GPP bug?
Any idea is appreciated.
Thank you.
