I've inherited an existing network with no documenation as to what was configured and why. Was running Server 2003, now running Server 2008 R2. Did a dcpromo at the time of migration.
There was a GPO that was setup as a folder redirection and it was causing issues with software installs and saving favorites in IE.
I (and many other users) was in that AD Security Group and the issue was that when installing software it gave an error, Could not access network location\\domain\dfs\dept\first.last\\Favorites
I have My Documents mapped to a shared drive in the AD settings for my User account.
Home Folder: Map X: to \\domain\dfs\dept\first.last
When I removed myself from that ADSG, I did a gpupdate -force and rebooted, it rebooted, I logged in, and the Welcome screen sat spinning for over an hour, but finally logged in. I could now install software and save Favorites in IE (I was using Firefox as a work around).
I have a user who used to be in that same ADSG and even though I've removed them, done the gpupdate, etc... They still get that error message on software install and can't save to IE favorites.
I ran gpresult /v on that PC, under RSOP for User it shows this, indicating the results below. Any idea why they would still be "stuck" with the setting even though they aren't in the ADSG (and in GPMC the Security Filtering is the folder redirection group, and Authenticated users is not listed).
