We have two domain controllers running Windows Server 2008 and several User and Computer GPOs. All of our systems are getting use User policies. All of our systems except those running Vista and Server 2008 are receiving the Computer policies. The domain controllers are getting all the policies, but not the rest of the 2008/Vista systems. We have a Server 2003 system, several Windows 7 systems, Windows Server 2008 R2 systems, and a Server 2012 system which are getting all the policies without error.
When I run rsop.msc on the 2008 servers, I get an error on the Computer settings only which says the following:
"Group Policy Infrastructure failed due to the error listed below.
Access is denied."
When I look in the event logs, I see this error with an error code of 1058:
"The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows attempted to read the file \\domainname\sysvol\domainname\Policies\{31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9}\gpt.ini from a domain controller and was not successful. Group Policy settings may not be applied until this event is resolved. This issue may be transient and could be caused by one or more of the following:a) Name Resolution/Network Connectivity to the current domain controller.
b) File Replication Service Latency (a file created on another domain controller has not replicated to the current domain controller).
c) The Distributed File System (DFS) client has been disabled."
Gpupdate /force yields an error identical to the one listed above.
I can manually browse to the sysvol share and access the gpt.ini files one both domain controllers from the affected systems without error.
This problem exists on every one of our 2008/Vista systems except the controllers themselves and on none of the other systems. The affected systems are in different OUs throughout the domain.
I have been tackling this for a couple days now and would greatly appreciate any help.
