We are moving from server 2008 R2 to server 2016. We currently user folder redirection to a 2008 R2 file server via group policy. The current configuration on the redirected folders is the users are granted exclusive access, move the contents to the new location, and leave the folder when the policy is removed. The users home folder is mapped through AD on the profile tab. With this being said, I have created a new share on a 2016 server using this article:
Deploy Folder redirection with offline files
I copied the old group policy and changed it to reflect the new locations on the new share, Idid not grant the users exclusive access to the redirected folders but left everything else the same.
If I create a new user and apply the new policy, all works well.
The issue I am having is successfully moving the users data from the old location to the new.
If I log the user out, take ownership of their files at the old location, apply the new group Policy to the user and log them in, the folders often wont redirect even if i copy the the data from the old location to the new.
I am obviously doing something wrong. Is there a better, non cumbersome way to do this?
What is the best way to do this?
