Unable to create/edit in GPMC, can't create or write files in sysvol symbolic link but can create folders

Single server, no replication issues. DNS is fine too.

Cannot create new group policies or edit existing ones. Can write and edit files located in c:\windows\sysvol\domain\ but cannot do the same accessing through the dfs share \\somedomain.com\sysvol, but folders can be created when accessing through dfs.

Purged mmc cache too.

gpmc logs this error in event viewer when trying to save a policy-
