Site to Zone GPO

We switched from placing trusted sites to site to zone on Windows 7 platform.  With that being said, someone just copied the full web site and placed into site to zone with the intention that this worked.  For example, someone placed inhttp://www.dell.com, then they put in https://www.dell.com and still not all the download and websites for all our Dell folks here worked.   I found dell.com works great--ftp, https, http, etc. because we even triedwww.dell.com and not everything worked.  I find this to be very fustrating to see there are not very good examples of how to input these sites.  Anyhow, it appears we have camera software that hashttps://10.50.50.1 (it appears this must be put in specifically like this full sites or this doesn't work--one cause it isn't using a fully-qualified domain), etc. One other type of thing we have been running into is if a site has a port at the end.  An example:  https://remote.jobalittle.com:887/sites/tiger.  The correct way to input this into site to zone would be jobalittle.com?  I believe these are the types of things we are struggling with.  By the way we are making these all trusted in that zone.

If anyone has any examples of the correct way to input would be great.

Also, Windows 7 we are using the Active X Approved Installation Sites for ActiveX Controls.  This is new for us as well and whomever copied trusted site to site to zones also copied the same and implemented the exact same in the ActiveX.  Now from reading and looking through forums it appears these should be actual web sites.  And I read we should not use wildcard characters which a lot of them currently have wildcard characters.  So looking for example again.  If we would do a domain such as georgiatech.com if we went to a web site http://kind.georgiatech.com we are experiencing issues that the download is not ok and the site doesn't work.  Someone then changed to *.georgiatech.com and this did not work either.  From what I am understanding the example we would put in is http://kind.georgiatech.com and then that seems to work.  So the bottom line is in this ActiveX section we cannot just use a domain, correct?  Does anyone have any examples of these?
