I'm having a lot of difficulty finding an answer on this problem so I'm hoping somebody will be able to assist me here and thank you in advance to anyone who may be able to guide me in the right direction. Our domain server is currently running Windows Server 2008 32bit. All of our computers in the past used to run Windows XP 32 bit and the GPO used to download flawlessly. However, we recently upgraded to Windows 7 32bit computers (we have to use 32 bit OS due to software requirements) and since then our computers have not been downloading the entire group policy. All devices are attached to the network via a switch and a wireless router for the laptops.
If I open up command prompt on a windows 7 machine and run gpupdate /force the User policy will download but not the computer policy. The full error is as follows:
Computer policy could not be updated successfully. The following errors where encountered:
The processing of Group Policy Failed because of lack of network connectivity to a domain controller. This may be a transient condition. A success message would be generated once the machine gets connected to the domain controller and Group Policy has successfully processed. If you do not see a success message for several hours, then contact your administrator.
To diagnose the failure, review the event log or run GPRESULT /H GPReport.html from the command line to access information about group policy results.
If I had to make an assumption (assuming is dangerous :) ) this problem is simply because Server 2008 came before Windows 7, however I'm hoping there is a way to install an updated GPO for Windows 7 computers so I can manage them. If it is also helpful I still have one Windows XP machine in our office and it is able to completely download the group policy without errors via the command prompt.
