What are the steps for importing GPO's from anotehr domain to view the settings before finding out later if there is a problem??

So far I have used GPMC to export the GPO's from another domain and I know that I can just import those GPO's into the new domain using the same process.  But I am wondering if there is a tool or best practice, that I can use to vet the process.  Do I really need this gpo or will this caused a problem in my newly built AD DS environment?  I hope I asked the question correctly...
