Changing Path of redirected Folder to the same destination deletes all files

Hello,

we set up folderredirections using DFS to a share \\domain.local\global\redirectedFolders. Because we have a lot of issues using DFS over VPN we decided to not use DFS any more and changed the GPO to the UNC path \\server\redirectedFolders which is the EXACT SAME destination.

We tested and everything was fine but one day later we recognized that most of the users lost their files in their folders which is a disaster. Furthermore every recycle bin is damaged since than and can't be repaired without going into safe mode.

What caused this issue and is this the expected behaviour?
