Hello all,
We recently implemented Windows 7 in our lab environment (~150 machines). We use Windows server 2008 with Folder Redirection (AppData, Desktop, Docs, Favs, Downloads) and Roaming Profiles. Initial roll out went fairly smooth but now we are experiencing redirection issues. Typically what happens is a user's redirected files will appear greyed out with little red x's on them. This is perplexing and can be fixed by waiting a sufficient amount of time (~5 minutes). After about 5 minutes, the files will "reappear" and the x's are gone. What is really frustrating is that if I (logged in as the user) navigate to the user's home folder, I see the files just fine and can open/edit. This is causing several issues with our Autodesk, Adobe, and Microsoft programs as these programs cannot access their application data directories because they have "little red x's".
This problem occurs on Win 7 x86 and 64 bit architectures throughout the building. We have a 10/100 connection that isn't very slow or congested. Also note that these red x's don't just appear at logon, sometimes they appear after the user is logged on for quite some time.
I suspect this may have something to do with how Windows 7 is handling file caching. Any ideas?
