We just added 5 new printers to our network. I had all the old printers mapped through User GPO's using preference with update and item-level targeting. After adding the new printers Cannon 5420s to the print server, I then updated the GPO's to add the new printers to each department etc. However they will not install. I tried the following.
Changing the preferences to Update, Create, Replaces etc... That made no difference.
Tried enforcing the polices that made no difference..
The only thing that worked was deploying them from the print server (Go to printer right click and hit deploy with group policy). However when I set it up this way it doesn't allow for the settings I need in preferences. Like OU targeting and targeting certain groups.
Does anyone know why it works through the printer server as a user\policies\windows settings\printer connections Path? You can't even modify that setting in a GPO? However it is not working in preference.
