Windows host file / DNS

Hi Guys,

I'd like to setup a host-name on our local network - available to all users;

Such as "company-data" should resolve to 192.168.1.1

The host-name works when added to the Windows host-file, but will be more practical to add this to the server DNS.

Is there a way to add a host-name to the Server DNS, without having the domain (zone), as  part of the host-name?

For example:  The users should only browse to "\\company-data" and not "\\company-data.domain.local"

Rupert
