Hi,
I am not sure if this is the right forum for this issue, but it has something to do with GPOs.
I work in a large environment where a GPO is rolled out for Office 2010. Now, I have the situation that when a document is stored in Sharepoint the People Picker does not work in the Document Information Panel (DIP). It is the default DIP.
We have a quite simple metadata model in Sharepoint. We store for each document the original creator and the current owner. Using the Sharepoint - Office integration enables you to modify metadata values from within Office using the Document Information Panel (DIP). The people picker control is visible, but the buttons have no functionality. It is disabled.
As far as I understand the People Picker is an Active X Control and the DIP is internally designed as an Infopath form although it is default and not customized.
In the GPO Settings I found these settings that have something to do with Active X:
- Active X Control Initialization
- Check Active X Objects
- Allow the use of ActiveX custom controls in Infopath forms
- Windows Internet Explorer Feature Control Opt-In
- Beaconing UI for forms opened in Infopath Filler Active X
- Bind to Object
In the meanwhile I investigated further and tried the Office 2010 GPO in a test environment. I figured out that this policy setting is causing the issue:
Allow the use of ActiveX custom controls in Infopath forms
UserConfiguration\Administrative Templates\Microsoft Infopath 2010\Security\Allow the use of ActiveX Custom Controls in Infopath forms
In general this setting makes sense at it protects the client from any custom ACTIVEX controls, but the people picker itself is NO custom control and was built by Microsoft.
This is a major issue in my organisation. It prevents people from successfully working working with Office 2010 and Sharepoint. Both are our main tools.
Any feedback is appreciated.
