I will be testing this type of setup shortly, but I thought I may as well ask the question here.
Is it possible to using both Security Filtering AND WMI Filtering to ensure that certain Group Policies hit certain servers with a particular Operating System.
Reason behind this request, I am currently looking to deploy DFSR Optimization Registry settings to a Security group which contains all servers in our domain that participate in DFSR Replication Groups. The only thing is this security group contains servers which have a mix of OS (2003, 2003 R2, 2008 R2 etc).
What I am envisioning is to create seperate GPO's for each OS type, add the registry settings to optimize the DFSR setup, link all GPO's at the same level, security filter by the same Security Group which contains all Servers, and then hopefully use a WMI Query to ensure that it hits the appropriate Operating System Type (as I have seen that some registry setting recommendations for this particular service are different based on your OS Type).
I'll post my testing here, but if someone has had experience doing this and confirms that this works, it would also be greatly appreciated.
