Hey,
Is there a way, in this day and age, of giving non-admin users rights to install software updates.
We have a particular application where Auto-Update cannot be turned off, and we're forever getting calls about updates for it. So we have to login to their PC with admin rights and perform the update (or offer admin credentials to the UAC prompt).
Frankly, this is stupid in nearly 2014.
Things like Flash Player, Adobe Reader etc. get updated all the time, and users are forever getting prompted to update only to be told they cannot.
Basically once the application is installed, Windows should maintain a safe list - any updates for applications in the safe list are installed automatically, without the need for admin rights and without even prompting the user (unless the application is open and cannot be updated).
Software Distribution is no good as it's for MSIs/MSPs only, and we don't want to have to add in every incremental update to every application we have in Group Policy! We don't have time for that - you'd need a person/team solely for a job like that.
