Group Policy - Internet Explorer Maintenance

I inherited a group policy where someone added setting to the Default domain policy for Internet Explorer Maintenance. At the time all the computer were XP and the domain controllers were server 2003. I have since updated the desktops to Windows 7 and the servers (multiple domain controllers) are a mix of server 2008 and 2012. I do have one server left that is 2003. The problem I am having is that I can't save Internet Options like trusted sites because they are being set by the Default Domain Policy with Internet Explorer Maintenance. If I go to the 2003 DC, the option to Reset browser settings is grayed out. What would be the best way to solve this? I have created another domain policy but read the horror stories of changing the Default Domain Policy. Will this drop off once the 2003 server is removed? Any suggestions?
