I am working with a client that is about to migrate all of their exiting XP SP3 systems to Windows 7. My task is to make sure the GPO's for the User and Computer are in place prior to migration effort. I would like to avoid starting from scratch so my plan was to use the Windows 7 user and computer template that is provided with SCM 3.0 and bring over the settings from the clients existing XP GPO's. I am looking for ideas on how to automate the process. At this point I have the existing XP policy open and I am going through it line by line and adding the settings to the Windows 7 template. So that the end result is a Windows 7 GPO that has all the old settings from the XP GPO that still apply. I know there are some settings that just don't map directly to the new Windows 7 template and that is not a problem but I just would like to explore different methods of accomplishing my task at hand.
