I'll start by saying I know this question has been asked many other times in these and other forums. I've tried many different solutions from those threads and other research at this point (in other words, yes, I have already Googled it) and haven't had much success. I am also the network admin - not the Windows admin. Unfortunately there's no one else in our office who really knows GPO so I'm stuck with trying to fix this.
I am trying to apply the following proxy settings to a single client for testing (under Internet Properties > Connections > LAN settings):
- Automatically detect settings: unchecked
- Use automatic configuration script: checked with my hosted PAC file listed
- Proxy server: unchecked
When the GPO applies - it seems to apply correctly. Unfortunately the setting does not always apply. If I change the settings manually then log off, reboot, or gpupdate /force the settings will only sometimes apply as set in the GPO.
I am not using "Preference Mode" for the GPO.
The GPO I created is linked to the direct parent OU of the computer object I am trying to affect, so the "Enforced" or "No Override" setting shouldn't matter (but correct me if I'm wrong).
When I run the Resultant Set of Policy wizard, it shows this GPO as "winning".
When I run "gpresult /z" on the machine where I want the policy applied, I cannot find the PAC file address listed, even though it otherwise appears that the GPO is being applied.
I just enabled verbose logging and will proceed with more testing (as per http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc775423(v=ws.10).aspx), but I'll be honest, I'm not really sure what I'm looking for.
