Hi,

I am setting up a Windows server 2012 R2 remote desktop service for 16 user in office, but want to block internet access in 10 0f that 16 users. I've created a Group on AD and set their proxy to 127.0.0.1 (with group policy), but can not restrict users from UNCHECKING their PROXY SETTINGS in INTERNET OPTIONS.

ANY IDEA?

is "Administrators" refer to domain group or local group?

Windows Server 2008 R2 sp1

using "Restricted Groups", i'm trying to add a domain group to be a member of all workstation's local admin group. i went and did that and use the "Member of" (so that i don't overwrite the existing local admin members) but before i hit on "Apply", it occurred to me, does the "Administrators" group refer to the domain group or the local group?

Hi,

We are using Windows server-2012 & client machines are windows-8.1.

Iam trying to apply a group policy for users i.e., Users desktop background. I have done the following.

I have created a one GPO at domain level and i applied a group policy like   User Configuration-->Policies-->Administrative Templates-->Desktop-->Desktop-->Desktop Wall paper (I have enabled this & i have set a local path).

In Server the wallpaper is changing but in all client machines the wallpaper has not applied & desktop background has appeared in black color.

Central Store ADMX Update

Hi All,

I've taken over a service that updated to Win7 from Vista. The central store was created for vista GPOs and is still using the vista ADMX templates.

There are still a small number of Vista machines in use and quite a few policies with specific registry entries etc defined and I wanted to know if updating the central store with the Win7 ADMX / ADML files would have any impact on this, or if its "safe" to import them?

Thanks for your help!

Cannot import ADMX files

Cannot import ADMX files

having a little trouble importing Admx files into group policy manager and would love to have someones opinion

I have Created a central repository at \\domain\SYSVOL\site.local\Policies\PolicyDefiniti ons and replicated the 3 domain controllers

I uploaded the admx files to the central store and the language files to
\\domain\SYSVOL\site.local\Policies\PolicyDefiniti ons\EN-GB

The domain controller I am working on has a copy of the admx and adml language file in the c:\Windows\Policy Definitions folder too

The templates are for chrome from google and the chromium project. Our domain controllers have Server 2012

I get the error "chrome.admx is not a valid template file. Only files that end with the .adm file extension can be added to this Group Policy Object " when Add/removing templates from the central repository.

Large scale deployment of GPP Printer policies

Hi all,

I have 136 printers to configure using GPP in 20 or so sites. I am planning to use item level targeting (ILT) in Group Policy Preferences set on the TCP/IP address of the client (RDS and Desktop) within a GPO object.

I have two questions:

1. can I use the same GPO object for both the RDS and the fat client desktop's ILT configurations?

2. I have the printer names, locations and IP addresses all ready. Without shelling out $$$ for the SDM solution, is there a way that I can create all of the settings within the policy using powershell or other automated method? I will get a severe case of RSI doing all these settings manually! Maybe there is a way I can edit the XML or the ADM files with all the settings?

Any help will be very much gratefully received.

Many thanks,

Tom

Noob question about ADMX files Windows 7 and 8.1

Hello community,

we have a company with windows 7 and windows 8.1 computers. It is mixed.
After a while I come to the fact, that my gpo are not working with deploying printers to windows 8.1 computers. On Windows 7 it is working fine. After a research on the internet I found the fact, that I need the admx files for Windows 8.1

Okay downloaded it, installed on the server and replaced the old ADMX files with the newer one.

After that the deployment of the printers worked fine for Windows 8.1

But that solution I got many other problems. For example all of my networking drives GPO weren`t working anymore.
For me it was clear, that it was the fault of the new ADMX files.

So I changed it back to the old ADMX files. After that my networking drives are working fine again.

So now my question, how can I have ADMX files installed for both systems? So for windows 7 and windows 8.1?

I thought that when i install the ADMX files for Windows 8.1 there are all older ADMX files included, but that was a wrong thinking.
So how can I manage both operating systems with one Group Policy?

Thanky for your help

GPO Deployed printer denying access to users.

Hello,

I am having some issues pop up with printers that are deployed through group policies. Its odd because it has happened to several of my computer labs even though nothing has been changed....to my knowledge.

The printer will show up for my students when they log in but it is grayed out and has a yellow triangle. When you click on the printer it says 'Needs Troubleshooting - Access Denied'.

I have checked the permissions and they are all set correctly and I have set the Point and Print in the GPO.(Some other forums I have seen on here recommended this fix) I was able to get a couple of the labs to work by just redoing the printer and redeploying the policy with the new printer but that's not an option in some of my other labs.

I would really appreciate some assistance and thank you in advance.

Sysvol is not replicating between domain controllers

My environment consist of Two Windows 2008 R2 domain controllers with windows 2003 domain function level.

Problem

recently I have created GPO which is not replicating to other domain controller sysvol folder. but I can see other old GUID in sysvol folder.

Checked Ad replication is working normally by creating user in one DC which is replicating to other DC.

Try manual replication through sites and services found to be successfull.

On both DCs run Repadmin /showrepl  result was success.

Kindly suggest for the best solution...

GPO for DNS Suffix (search list) not working

$

First of all let me start by saying that this is my undestanding of DNS suffix....

I have PCs joined to domain1....

I append the following DNS siffixs (in order)

Domain2

Domain3

Now....  If I ping "example" it should try example.domain1.com (not found)  then ping example.domain2.com and so on..until its found or out of options right?

So here is my issue.  I am joined to Domain1

I have Domain1, Domain2, Domain3 in my DNS suffix.  If I ping a name, it only tries the first one and never moves on to the second.  Is there some other policy I have to enable?

Enable Safe Search in Group Policy

We ran across an issue where if a Student typed xxx in the Google Search and then click images, they are submitted to more than an eye full of inappropriate images.  We have the "Safe Search" enabled on our Sonic Wall, but that still does not stop the images.

Is there any setting within Group Policy we can set to push out enabling Safe Search on all the Computers within the Network?  Or if anyone has a great idea of how to block these websites?

Thank you.

IE10 Proxy setting not getting applied via GPO

$

Hello Guys,

We have recently introduced a couple of Windows 8 & 8.1 computers in our network, and we are having issues applying the Internet Explorer Proxy Server settings.

We have been using a GPO with the following settings to automatically configure our Windows 7 computers running IE9 with the appropriate Proxy settings:

User Configuration\Policies\Windows Settings\Internet Explorer Maintenance\Connection/Proxy Settings

  • “Enable Proxy Settings” : Checked
  • “Address of proxy” : server.domain.local
  • “Port” : 8080
  • “Use the same proxy server for all addresses” : Checked
  • “Exceptions” : Here we have a list of several internal or partner sites that should not be proxied.

Now this same setting is not getting applied to Windows 8 & 8.1 machines.

We are running on Windows server 2008 R2 DC.

Thanks & Regards, Ronak Shethiya
