Hi,
I have just reconfigured a client's printer mapping to deploy via a new GPO. Previously, the printers were just mapped under Default Domain Policy. I removed old printer entries and unused drivers. Just a general tidy-up and making everything nice and neat.
There are three printers named as follows in Print Management (share name also the same):
- Samsung X4220RX
- HP CP1515n
- Canon MF6180dw
I have tested all three printers on multiple PCs successfully. But there is one PC that has a weird issue. The HP and Samsung printers test ok on this PC, but the Canon does not. All three printers are visible in "Devices and Printers", but the
Canon is showing as "Canon MF6100 Series on Server", rather than "Canon MF6180dw" like it does on all the other successful PCs. When I try to print a test page, it throws an error saying that the Print Spooler isn't running on the server.
That's wrong, because the other PCs can print fine. I also cannot delete the printer, because the PC is recognising it as a GPO-deployed printer. But it doesn't match the entry I created for it in the GPO.
When the Canon was deployed previously under Default Domain Policy, it had a name of "Canon Generic Driver PCL6", but I deleted it and also removed it from that GPO. So that old entry does not exist anywhere on the server, Print Management or GPO. The Canon is now under the same new GPO as the other printers.
Can anyone tell me why it exists in this weird, twisted form, and how I might be able to get it working? Multiple reboots hasn't fixed it either.
