Looking at the new & funky GPO Preferences options, I see they are targetted at replacing logon scripts for a number of tasks - network drive mapping included.
In my scenario, the drive needs to be mapped based on AD department attribute, along the lines of G: = \\servername\%department%
Would anyone know if GPO preferences can accomplish the same thing - I see they can be targetted based on AD query (but would prefer not to create 140 individual items for all of our departments). Another option which seemed worth exploring is setting an environment variable to the value of AD department attribute and then using that to map a drive to, but the same issue pops up - how to read the AD attribute into something 'en masse' (short of using a script for it)
Cheers,
Petar
