When a Group Policy is disabled are the registry keys created kept on the machine or removed?

We currently have a Group Policy Object that creates a registry entry for Office Communicator 2007 under the software policies "communicator" this sets basic settings, etc...

I want to disable this GPO, but my question is does disabling the GPO remove the folder/settings from each machine? or do I need a GPO to remove the folder on machines?

thanks
